Q1 09 Update: Europe and North America slump to 10-year low

The Mobile World has completed its Q1 09 survey of the global mobile industry. Mobile customer growth has continued over the nine months since the beginning of the current recession, albeit at a reduced rate. The Mobile World Database shows a March 09 total of 4.155bn connections worldwide, up from 4.007bn at the end of December 2008. Q4 08 Update: Global connection total surpasses 4bn

The Mobile World has completed its 2008 survey of the global mobile industry. During the quarter, 165m new connections were made, bringing the year’s total new mobile customers to 660m. This was enough to take the global total past the 4bn milestone. This latest billion came just 17 months after the 3bn mark was reached, implying a global growth rate over that period of more than 20 new connections a second. Q3 08 Update: Third best quarter on record

The Mobile World has completed its Q3 2008 survey of the global mobile industry. With over 170m new connections, this was the third best quarter on record, bettered only by Q2 08 and Q4 07. Over the past twelve months, some 690m new connections have been made, equivalent to more than 10% of the world’s population.
